At the 24th annual preservation conference on April 25, 2009 Philip Marshall of Roger Williams University and Robert Leaver of New Commons re-introduced Preservation Future to the preservation world. This topic was first announced at the 2008 conference. This year we circulated a post card among our colleagues to invite you to stir the RI preservation pot.
Preservation Future is predicated on the premise that preservationism needs to recognize the "now" and the "future" as well as the past.
Some questions we want to explore online:
How can we preserve our future history if preservationism prevents us from creating it?
Is "Yankee New England" the only aesthetic worth preserving?
Is preservationism blind to all the parts of a place that aren't buildings?
Can modern materials integrate with historical buildings?
Can preservationism be creative?
